Follow a boy who struggles to make friends, a girl who feels different from those around her, and a man who meets a stranger that changes his life. Each letter of the alphabet accompanies a word that helps to demonstrate what inclusion is all about. As you read through the alphabet, you can begin to see these people, stories and ideas come together to build understanding and inspire action. This story embraces the ABC's as a way of showing the fundamentals of inclusion. Through a tale of friendship and love, this book teaches important concepts such as tolerance, equality, forgiveness, diversity, self-love, and social responsibility. It is more than just kindness. It helps us see that we can look different, learn differently, believe in different things, and yet still be as one. It speaks to the hearts of children who have special needs, and those who have been bullied. Inclusion is also about taking action and making changes. Whether it is in a classroom, a home, or in the community-this book inspires teachers, parents, and children to find opportunities to create a better, more inclusive world. Inclusion Alphabet makes a great gift during a special event, or holiday to thank teachers, parents, students, therapists, grandparents, and more.
Autorenporträt
Most of my time is spent making sure my kids don't stick lego building blocks up their noses. I am a mom to three young boys and when I do get a spare moment to myself, I sit down and I write or create something. I used several photo editing techniques to create the illustrations of this book. They were originally photographs that have now been edited into sketches. I am also the creator and constant voice for the @inclusion_project. I work on encouraging others to tell their story and spread inclusion in the community they live in. I believe that we are what we say, what we do, what we think, what we make, and of course, what we read and so I'm thrilled to be joining the publishing world as a first time author. Inclusion Alphabet really came about when sitting in a school parking lot waiting for my son with special needs. As each child exited the school, anxiously waiting for their ride home, it was easy to pick out the students with plenty of friends and family support. It was just as easy to see the children who were struggling and perhaps, alone. After jotting down a few things that day on a receipt in my car, I decided I was going to write this book because every child has worth and deserves an opportunity to succeed. It is thrilling to have others' reading something that I made and feel so strongly about. I currently reside in Woods Cross, Utah.
