An investigative survey was carried out in two upazila of dinazpur district during September to October 2005. An investigative survey was carried out in two upazila of dinazpur district during September to October 2005. Samples of 50 nursery owners were interviewed through the techniques of formal (pre-tested questionnaire) and informal (discussion with farmers) method. A total of 34 species covering a wide range of fruit, timber and medicinal species were identified in the study nurseries. Among the fruit species, litchi was the most prevalent species. Nursery owners were collect major portion of seeds from their own farm. The nurserymen used, vegetative and sexual propagation as seedling production methods. The fundamental practices used at nursery level were seed treatment, seed sowing in the primary bed and then transfer into the secondary bed/poly bags, cutting, grafting, layering, grading, hardening, etc. Regarding fertilizer use, they prefer cowdung. A number of problems, e.g., infestation with ant and leaf curl were found, damage of seedlings by cattle and lack of skill man powerwere the most important problems. However, for promoting the present status of quality planting materials, respondents opined to improve the management level and skill of concern farmers urgently.
