Al Capone and Don Corleone were two of the most well-known organized crime figures of the 20th century. Stefano Magaddino was the most powerful American gangster of the 20th century. This book chronicles a decade-long conflict between an elite stealth New York State police squad and the Magaddino crime family. Together with former State Trooper George Karalus, a member of the undercover squad that followed Magaddino, and seasoned crime writer Matt Gryta, who covered many of the incidents and trials detailed in the book, they have worked to convey the tale of the covert unit's fight against the Mafia. According to The Real Teflon Don, Magaddino was able to quell criticism of his Apalachin plan by giving out "assignments" that resulted in the deaths of several of his most vocal mob opponents. As Magaddino always did, he did not speak when he gave the go-ahead to kill someone; instead, he lifted his right hand above his head. That implied to his henchmen that he had given the "task" his blessing. His Apalachin "critics" were dealt with in this fashion, which successfully subdued the criticism years after that national embarrassment for the entire criminal family.
