Tis book focuses on the necessary factors to be considered in extending biodiversity conservation onto the communal lands of the Dwesa-Cwebe in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. To achieve this, the work considers the ongoing community conservation initiative that was taking place at Nqabara (a neighbouring village to Dwesa-Cwebe)and creates a conceptual framework towards unravelling the principles underlining the potential success of the initiative. These prerequisite factors to potential community conservation are discussed under headings as: natural resource based factors, community based factors and external institutions based factors. In conclusion, the study recommends these vital factors to be considered for success to be attained in any community conservation initiative, and recommends further research to evaluate the degree of importance of each of the factors to successful implementation.
