To the outside world, Stephanie seemed to be doing rather well with a good-looking husband and carefree existence. She would have liked a career in law, would like not to be going through menopause and would like that Roger preferred her to 'Stately Solution', his superstar of a horse, but overall life was okay. It was only when somebody killed you that you realised how good life was or at least how much easier it was to communicate with other people when you were also alive. She now knew that she had experienced thanatophobia for a reason. It wasn't her husband that did it, he was stupid and jealous and the prime suspect, but beyond that, he had adored her. His solicitor Stefan Larson has the unenviable task of representing the rich and paranoid Roger in a case where any other motive is lacking but for the intervention of Stephanie. But for the unenviable situation, she could quite happily stay quietly dead and nominally happy, and although she had never really contemplated life after death and what to do with it, here she was with a husband she didn't necessarily like but needed to protect and a solicitor she had never known in life but whose office and mind she needed and wanted to inhabit more and more, but was that just for the sake of Roger?
