The format of this book was chosen out of respect for the participants in the research. It was the desire of these individuals to be given credence as being capable of participating not only in therapy for his or her own self injury but also in research and education of self injury for professionals, educators, and families. Dr. Karen S. Gongola, PhD, LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Arkansas. She provides psychotherapy to youth and young adults for issues involving self injury including: trauma, depression, anxiety, and sexual abuse. She has provided education on self injury in publications and conferences for professionals and families of self injurers.
