India is the world's largest producer of dairy products by volume, accounting for more than 13% of world's total milk production. As the country consumes almost all of its own milk production. The cooperative societies are playing an important role in the Indian dairy industry. In particular these societies have been helping the economic conditions of Indian women by providing them employment and income generating opportunities. Large number of Indian women workers in unorganized sector which is unable to provide any sustainable benefits or social security.
