In this research, the author analyses the intermodal transportation at the scope of combination of different transport modes into unbroken transport chain in order to offer the best transport services; especially in maritime transport for merchandise trade between the ASEAN+3 and the EU with the special consideration on the Mekong River (in ASEAN), sea ports between two continents (Europe and Asia) and the Danube River as well as the relations between involved partnerships in intermodal transportation operation. Basic scopes of the research: a) international trade with physical goods between the ASEAN+3 and the EU, Vietnam and Slovak Republic; commodity structure, required conditions of delivery, INCOTERMS, EDI; b) global supply chain - economic and commercial characteristics of supply chain, the most significant maritime transportation routes in combination with inland waterway transport, linkage possibilities of the Mekong and Danube Rivers; c) international logistics - volume and frequency of supply, logistics quality of delivery, price, operators; d) intermodal transportation - quantity of goods, quality of transportation chain, carriers and intermediaries.
