The political and economic collapse of the socialist satellite countries around the former Soviet Union had and still has dramatic effects on those Arab countries, which had imposed upon themselves a socialist economic and social order. Most of these Arab countries have set in motion the painful process of basic economic and social reform. Taking Algeria, Egypt, Syria and Yemen as examples, this volume reflects the general problems and current efforts in these countries towards economic liberalization and privatization.Der politische und ökonomische Zusammenbruch der sozialistischen Satellitenstaaten der früheren Sowjetunion hat dramatische Auswirkungen auf arabische Staaten mit sozialistischer Sozial- und Wirtschaftsordnung.
