Following the favorable results obtained in treatment of coronary artery disease, combined angioplasty and stenting has been advocated for treatment of carotid stenosis as well. The results of early series have suggested that endoluminal revascularization in high risk patients can be performed with an acceptable degree of safety.

Dr. Hazem Antar Mashaly studied medicine in Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. He completed his neurosurgery residency in the same medical school where he also got his doctorate degree in 2008 in the field of carotid artery stenting. Currently, a neursosurgery consultant and lecturer in Ain Shams University.
