The procedure currently used for cochlear implementation can be improved with the aid of techniques developed in medical imaging. A suitable path accessing the cochlea can be determined before the operation by locating a point in the facial recess and another point in the basal turn of the cochlear on the CT image of the patient s ear. In this book we demonstrate how this path can be determined using a combination of rigid and non- rigid image registration alrogithms.

Hasan Al-Marzouqi obtained his master's degree from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, USA in Summer 2006. He works as a Research Engineer at the Petroleum Institute, AbuDhabi, UAE. His research interests include image processing and data mining applications.
