If going to college in the US is nothing but a MUST as it was for me this book is for you. Just like many of you I came from a background that did not necessarily prepare me for college. I have only been successful by asking questions from my teachers and professors and never losing my dream or determination to attend college. This book is filled with information to motivate, encourage and give students tips on how to prepare to attend a university or college in the United States. Most importantly I want students to know that you are not alone in your journey to higher education. I also go into details about specific steps I took that made me a good candidate for universities I applied for and got accepted into. I even share my experience going back to middle school on how I was able to achieve my degree in science as a young, uniformed, minority in a world somewhat created to be against my dreams and aspirations.

Autorenporträt
My name is Huldah Ohene Kena. I was born in Ghana, West African, and immigrated to the United States. I am a proud Ghanaian and Pittsburger. I attended middle school at the Colfax Spanish Academy in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood in Pittsburgh. Then I attended high school at the Pittsburgh Science and Technology Academy in Oakland, Pittsburgh. I completed my college degree at the University of Pittsburgh at the Oakland and Greensburg campuses. My background as an African American immigrant, woman, and minority might be considered a weakness and disadvantage in pursuing a science degree. However, I am one of many stories to show that it doesn't matter what your background is and where you come from anything is possible if you dream big and work hard. I hope this book encourages others like myself who find themselves in the background, gender, culture, or race similar or different from mine to find encouragement in pursuing higher education and pursuing their dreams.
