The analysis is meant to contribute to the academic debate in the field of regional approaches to security, identity and development. The study is related to a broader manner of understanding security, relying on human security concept, including topics such as: illegal migration, smuggling of weapons and drugs and the fragility of states. Departing from a purely theoretical analysis of issues of identity and security, the topic is directly linked to problems of human suffering arising from and related to this region. I am driven by compassion for the people trafficked and forced into labor or sexual slavery that are coming from my own country and the neighboring states and by the countless African lives that were taken with weapons originating from the Black Sea Area. The deplorable economic, social and political situations that the countries of this area are facing challenged me to study more about the reasons and look for options.
