Quality of work life (QWL) refers to the quality of life (QL) of individuals in their working organizations. Individuals spend much of their lives in organizations. Hence, the importance of QWL is inevitable. It has an ideological core comprising the perceptual gap across individuals about the real connotation of QL as well as QWL.A positivist attitude is always skeptical about the deeper meaning of life, maybe out of honest lack of knowledge, or maybe with some ulterior motives. The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship between quality of work life and organizational commitment among a sample of employees in South Central Railway, Vijayawada. QWL variables were examined namely growth and development, participation, physical environment, supervision, pay and benefits and social relevance were examined to determine their relationship with organizational commitment. The present study therefore is an attempt to touch upon three aspects of QWL: (a) QWL from a human values approach; (b) some viewpoints for subjective observation of QWL; and (c) some ameliorative measures towards improving QWL.
