Autorenporträt
Iain Gelston is an award winning player of the Border or Half Long Pipes, having won the open competitions at Morpeth Gathering, Rothbury Traditional Music Festival, the Northumbrian Pipers' Society, Bellingham Show and the Lowland and Border Pipers' Society in Glasgow. He plays both solo and as part of the Tyneside based folk band Lowp. Steeped in the traditional music of the North East, Iain takes his inspiration from the long standing connections between the musical traditions of the British Isles and Eire, in particular the older forms and style of the 18th century. The music he plays comes from collections such as that of William Dixon (1733) and William Vickers (1770), both Tyneside musicians and collectors of music. Iain is a trustee of the Northumbrian Pipers' Society.
