This research, "Diction and Themes: A Study of Chinua Achebe's A Man of the People and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Purple Hibiscus", is an exploration in the domain of style adopting an eclectic procedure using both linguistic and literary theories in order to broaden the horizons of the interface between language and literature. The study of diction as a style index is pivotal for an understanding and analysis of themes of literary works. This book, as an analysis of diction reveals the themes of leadership failure in Achebe's A Man of the People and religious fundamentalism in Adichie's Purple Hibiscus. There is the need for us to stress that little attention has been paid over the years to the study of the area of interdependence of language and literature , especially, diction - theme nexus when compared to other aspects of literature. This book, is a succinct endeavour to fill this lacuna.
