This research work has been able to bring to limelight, the various development indicators and parameters in Okene LGA of Kogi State, the hierarchical ranks and orders of the rural settlements have also been established including the spatial pattern of the settlements and the linkages that exist among the various orders of settlements.These findings will equip the government, planning agencies, non-governmental organizations, geographers, urban and regional planners, stakeholders, academicians and researchers with the necessary information in making and implementing sustainable plans, policies and projects in the study area and its environs that will bring about the required development in the rural areas of Okene. These findings will also help in siting the right developmental projects (such as educational and infrastructural facilities) in the right places for the maximum benefit, coverage and utilization in Okene and will also serve as a framework for planning other rural settlements in Nigeria.

The author is a Lecturer at the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, Kogi State University, Anyigba, Nigeria with over five (5) years university teaching and research experience. His research areas of interest are Urban and Regional Development Planning, Migration Studies, Geographical Information System (GIS) and Research Methods.
