Autorenporträt
Ismet Bekric (Banjaluka, 1943) is a poet, story-teller, dramatist, and translator. One of the most important writers for children in Bosnia and Herzegovina, since February 1993 he has lived with his family in Slovenia, in Ilirska Bistrica, but is very much present in the literary life of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo (Literature Department) and worked as a journalist, editor and editor-in-chief in the newspaper and publishing department of »Glas« in Banjaluka. He has published more than 30 books, including »Jutro tate Mrguda« (The Morning of the Frowning Father), »Klupa kraj prozora« (A Bench Next to the Window), »Otac s kisobranom« (Father with an Umbrella), »Radnicka cetvrt« (Workers' Square), »Ocevo breme« (Father's Worry), »Ocev kaput« (Father's Coat), »Djecije nebo« (Children's Sky) »Izgubljeni kliker« (The Lost Marble), »Jesen u gradu« (Autumn in the City), »Kraljica lutka« (The Doll Queen), »Pjesma se javlja« (A Poem Coming Up), and the plays »Noc kad su neboderi setali« (The Night the Skyscrapers Walked), »Krojac Djeda Mraza« (Santa Claus's Tailor) and »Djeca i lutke« (The Children and the Dolls); a book of stories from his childhood »Pijetlov budilnik« (The Cockrel's Alarm Clock); a collection of fairy tails »Drveni konjic« (The Wooden Horse), the title story of which has been translated and published in English; and the newest book of poems and stories "Patuljci se uvijek vracaju" (Dwarves Always Come Back). His books and poems have been translated into English, French, German, Russian, Italian, Slovenian, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Polish, Czech, Turkish, Albanian, and Macedonian.
