The cult of Mary is an integral part of Catholicism from the begin of Christianity. Its important point was the definition of Council of Ephesus (431) - the First Marian dogma of Catholic faith: Virgin Mary is Mother of God. "Down the centuries the Church has reflected on Mary's cooperation in the work of salvation, deepening the analysis of her association with Christ's redemptive sacrifice... In fact, Mary's role as Coredemptrix did not cease with the glorification of her Son" - said st. Pope John Paul II. Similar, as before Fourth Marian dogma declared in 1950 about Mary's assumption into heaven, in whole world now goes on the petitions to Holy Father for proclamation of Fifth dogma: Mary Coredemptrix, Mediatrix, and Advocate. In Slovakia, author's homeland, this "Marian crusade" was met with a very mixed reception. A special confrontation was between the local bishops and the exiled Slovak bishop Pavol M. Hnilica. One auxiliary bishop especially turned out to be a strongly opposed of any activities favouring the proclamation of this Marian dogma. All agree that Virgin collaborated on the redemption. The disagreement appears when one calls this collaboration by the term "coredemption".
