Someone Else First is an old-fashioned, serious read. Experiences of one family during the tumultuous years of the twentieth century shape Douglas McFarlane's view of America. He develops a conviction that his increasing anger and desperation are caused by his own generation's pollution of American ideals. Hollowed out be hopelessness, Douglas contemplates suicide. However, infuriated that "someone else" caused his disillusionment he is led to a curiously consoling act of homicide.
