For professionals in the construction industry, their importance in project management roles on effective project delivery is becoming more pronounced at the closure of every new project. With cost overrun, time overrun and deficiency in quality as major challenges to most projects, the need to examine the project management competencies required of these professionals to effectively tackle this trilogy of challenge is necessary, having in mind that they would need training in any of the competencies where they may be deficient. In this study, eight groups of construction professionals were selected. They are Architects, Builders, Civil/Structural Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Estate Valuers and Surveyors, Mechanical Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, and Urban & Regional Planners. Nineteen factors of project management competencies were selected based on past research were reviewed. A structured questionnaire was developed to gather information based on the age, educational training, professional memberships and the perception of the selected construction professionals to the nineteen competency factors.
