According to certain theories of large spacial extra dimensions, the Large Hadron Collider at Cern could become a black hole factory. The colliding protons could then form micro black holes at a rate as high as 1 black hole per second. Following these theoretical predictions, this thesis gives an insight in the predicted black hole creation and their decay. The unique democratic decay of the black holes is studied and used to identify these special events in the ATLAS detector.

Autorenporträt
John P. Ottersbach obtained his physics degree from the Bergische Universitaet Wuppertal in 2007. After finishing this thesis, which was written in cooperation with the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, he continued to work on the ATLAS experiment at CERN, this time pursuing a PhD at the Dutch Institute for Subatomic Physics (Nikhef).
