There once was a quote that went "there is no such thing as enough reference. Reference, reference, reference." To the many decoy carvers, the growing amount of taxidermists, and all the general Waterfowl enthusiasts throughout the country this statement could not be truer. What started out as a simple quest to gain more reference through photos for the Otto brothers, turned into a project anticipated by many to add to their library of current reference that is vital to meet their needs. John and Jason Otto spent well over a year in the field chasing down and photographing their subjects in the many poses and situations it takes to create usable reference. This entailed a vast array of geographical locations logging thousands of miles. In the first Volume the Otto Brothers randomly take on ten selected species and show through stunning pictures the many angles, poses, and natural attitudes of these Waterfowl. Jason's expertise on the camera tells their stories, shapes, and sizes in a format usable for the many hobbies that accompany all those whose passion is shared by these brothers. Along the way they have supplied some field notes from there thousands of hours spent with these species and supply a few unique facts and stories not found in the traditional text. For the bird watchers they give some general information where these birds can be found in the wild. For the carver they offer some insight for each species that may be of some use. The taxidermist will also find a hint or two. For those simply interested in adding to there collection of wildlife art there are some interesting observations for general information. Stay tuned for future Volumes as the Otto Brothers continue to scout the fields until they have brought you all of the North American species of Waterfowl to complete this set of books.
