John S. Shilshi is a retired IPS officer from Manipur. Trained in Counter-Insurgency and Counter-Terrorism, he led the elite civil police commando unit from 1992 to 2000, when insurgency was at its peak, and the state was considered as the hottest theatre of conflict in the region. His first book, "Vale of Tears - Untold Stories of Violence in Manipur" was the recollection of incidents that he handled as a Police officer, while serving in Manipur. During his stint in the Central Government between December 2000 and March 2018, Mr. Shilshi served in the MHA, MEA, the Intelligence Bureau, and the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS). He is a recipient of three Gallantry Medals, a Meritorious Service Medal, and a Distinguished Service Medal, from the President of India. He has also edited "Bonds Beyond Border", a project of BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation in 2008. He writes on security and social issues, and tweets at @johnshilshi.
