This book is about Christianity as a path to spiritual awakening and inner peace-a path that is entirely compatible with science and the best of contemporary culture. It is about how honest understanding of the tradition and of ourselves can help us grow from an old religious worldview that does not work anymore into one that does.
Honest to God: Christianity at the Convergence of Tradition, Reason, and Mystery considers how the conceptual framework and practice of contemporary popular Christianity must change if it is to grow forward into compatibility with and relevance for the modern scientific worldview. Emphases include honesty regarding science and critical study of the Christian tradition, the mythic nature of the Christian narrative, personal spiritual growth, and the reorientation of faith from propositional belief to awareness of divine spirit in oneself and all things. The work draws from the author's own experience of spiritual development. What is proposed could be characterized as a transmythic, evolutionary, existential, apophatic, transformative, mystical, panentheism.
