Autorenporträt

The Rev. Canon Jay H. Gordon After graduating from Brown University in 1959, Canon Gordon studied at The General Theological Seminary in New York City and then was ordained a priest in The Episcopal Church in 1962. He obtained a second degree from GTS in liturgics in 1973. During his 40 years of ministry before retirement, he served in three parishes: Grace Church, Newark (1962- 65); Chapel of Intercession of Trinity Parish (1965-73) in West Harlem; and as Rector of the Church of St. Matthew and St. Timothy in NYC (1973-2003). In his last position he also served as President of the Housing Corporation (through which some 100 low-income apartments were renovated) and as President of the Neighborhood Center, which operated pre-school, after school, teenage and elderly programs for the community. Beyond the parish Canon Gordon also served as a Trustee of the Diocese, a Trustee of the Cathedral, and on the Ecumenical Commission of the Diocese of New York among many others. In addition, he served as a trustee of Daytop Village, Inc., and was a Co-Founder of The Jericho Project. For some 25 years he also served as the Chairman of the Board of St. Hilda's and St. Hugh's School in NYC.. Since retiring in 2003, he has served as an Honorary Associate at St. Peter's in Port Chester, and is now serving as an Honorary Associate at Christ and St. Stephen's Church in Manhattan. This Diary was written to record the exciting years of his priesthood, as well as to acknowledge all the wonderful people he worked and served with over those years.
