With the help of a special box full of clothes from the local black history museum, they can turn a game of dress-up into a makeover that transports Smart Sarah and Perceptive Preston back in time so they can walk in the shoes of historical people of color who were innovators and inventors! They learn about the things they use every day that were created by inventors and innovators that were people of color, from furniture, potato chips, and light bulbs, to computer gadgets. This is the first in a series of the many adventures of Sarah and Preston that highlight the many historical and modern-day contributions of people of color in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) career fields and industries. This series is meant to make learning fun, inspiring, relatable and to help highlight many hidden figures in African-American history. We believe if they can see and imagine the possibilities then our young people will grow up believing and knowing that - I can be it!

Autor

This series of books is dedicated to our parents, Sarah and Preston. In the book, their characters are twins but in real life, they were twin spirits - kindred souls. Our parents always put an emphasis on education and actively encouraged us growing up to explore and to not let anyone else set limitations on what we were capable of achieving. As a result, I have a great desire for traveling, adventure, and exploring. Who knew a career in software development and technology would lead to traveling around the world! My work has lead me to places like Spain, Brazil, Columbia, Hawaii, and as far as Russia. That does not include the places I've traveled just for fun! My parents helped prepare me for a career in Information Technology that did not even exist or was not available to them when they grew up! That is something that parents and grandparents today have to continue to do, to help young people prepare for new careers and an ever-evolving workforce and job market which demands continuous learning in order to stay in front of the fast-paced changing trends. The new norm also means that if a job doesn't exist that fits your talent, then you must have the courage to create your own business and career path as an entrepreneur. This series of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineer, and Math) Adventures is not just about pushing young people into those specific career fields; it's simply to give them options and foremost to help them discover problem-solving skills that they can apply to any vocation. The only goal is for young people to find a path where they can thrive, prosper and find work that they enjoy and provides them a purposeful living.
