A systematic review of PLWHA retention rates in "ART programmes in Sub-Saharan Africa" (Rosen et al. 2007) reported a mean retention rate of 77.5% at the end of 12 months. About 33,000 people still died of AIDS-related illnesses in Kenya by 2014. Most of these deaths occurred due to treatment failure associated with non-adherence. About 2,728 adults and 992 children in Siaya County succumbed to AIDS-related illnesses during 2013 despite being initiated on ART. Bondo Sub County is a low-resource setting region in Nyanza hence need to create a robust and seamless retention systems so that the gains of early prevention care and treatment can be fully realized in time.
