Jim Gabler grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. He has degrees from Washington & Lee University in economics and law. He served in the U.S.Army as a finance officer. He practiced law in Maryland as a civil trial lawyer for both the defense and plaintiff. His passion for wine includes travels to vineyard regions throughout the world, collecting wine and wine books, and writing about wine. Jim's most recent book Dine with Thomas Jefferson and Fascinating Guests covers 25 fact-based dinners at the White House, Monticello, Paris, London, Philadelphia, and the French wine country. His other books are Passions: The Wines and Travels of Thomas Jefferson, An Evening with Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson: Dinner, Wine, and Conversation, Wine into Words: A History and Bibliography of Wine Books in the English Language, How To Be A Wine Expert, and two novels, The Secret Formula, and God's Devil. Since the publication of Passions: The Wines and Travels of Thomas Jefferson in 1995, Jim has been a guest speaker on Jefferson and wine at institutions, organizations and clubs throughout the United States including Monticello, Smithsonian Institution: Museum of American History, Boston Athenaeum, Winterthur, and The Society of the Four Arts, Palm Beach.
