Janaya Watne was raised in Polson, Montana. She spent two years in Phoenix, Arizona earning her bachelor of arts degree in communications (journalism emphasis) from Grand Canyon University. It was in Phoenix that she discovered that she preferred the company of bears to that of scorpions, so she relocated back to the Pacific Northwest in 1993. She loves being outdoors, even when it's raining.
