This study addresses the increasing tumult over the commercialization of higher education. While many issues in higher education encompass the mission and values of the university, the operation of for-profit subsidiaries by nonprofit universities provides the potential for an especially contentious clash. By answering the questions of why for-profit subsidiaries of nonprofit universities were created, how they are governed and managed, and what the nature of the relationship with their nonprofit parent is, this book contributes to a better understanding of the larger controversy.
