Postman Jake Kolman, recently separated and getting hassle at work, is attacked on his round. Luckily, he survives but his assailant dies. Jake discovers this is the latest in an outbreak of such incidents that seem to stem from the local tobacco factory. As the deaths pile up, he faces a race against time to get to the root of the problem and discover a cure before the virus-based epidemic gets out of control. His problems are compounded by his escalating work and personal issues as he spirals into despair. His only ally appears to be Suzanne Deering, daughter of the tobacco factory owner. The pair uncover a horrendous plot that puts not only them, but the whole country at risk, and together they must overcome life-threatening obstacles in their quest to beat the odds.

The middle child of three, Jeffrey Manship was born in Winchester in 1957. The family settled in Worksop in his teens, where he completed his education at the local comprehensive. He spent 37 years as a postman in the town before taking early retirement to fulfil his lifelong ambition of becoming a published author. He has two sons with his wife, Jakki, and four children from a previous relationship. His other interests include football, cricket (well, most sports really) and the family Labrador.
