Stain on SilverDish tells the story of Ben, licensed young teacher who brings fresh positive life to his school and community. He is made deputy school head and assistant clergy to the community. Female students fight for his attention. The older teachers grow jealous of his position and draw a battle line; the fundamentalist school head, a recently remarried widower and the apostate community chieftain support and protect him. Ben's favorite female student becomes pregnant and had an illegal abortion. He scraps, steals and sells valuable school artifacts to raise money for a cover up. When the bubble burst, Ben abandons his station and career and flees. The pregnant young wife of the school head abandons her matrimonial home and flees in search of Ben, her heartthrob and father of the unborn baby. The story throws up the crisis of religious belief among the elites of African society and the confusion such crisis breeds in the conscience of younger generations. Fundamentalist Christians verses apostates who return to ancestral religion and the uncertain model it makes to an impressionable youth.
