Although it seems that everything has already been written about Adolf Hitler, the truth is that this character who marked the 20th century is still, in a way, unknown. Although it seems that everything has already been written about Adolf Hitler, the truth is that this character who marked the 20th century is still, in a way, unknown. His complex and contradictory personality, in which the ruthless dictator coexists with the passionate artist, the unscrupulous leader with the charismatic leader, the unhinged autocrat with the dreamer of utopias, continues to perplex historians. Who was Hitler in reality? The image of him that has transcended, histrionic and vociferous, reduced to a caricature, prevents us from knowing what the human Hitler was like, to use an oxymoron. This book offers a portrait of this unknown leader, through the testimonies left by those who knew him best. The reader will thus discover a disconcerting character, capable of feeling an inordinate love for his mother, of falling madly in love, of adoring the dogs he always had by his side, while at the same time showing the greatest contempt for human life. These pages recount unpublished episodes, such as the fact that he had a Jewish cook, that he was enraptured by the music of a Jewish singer and that he had several Jewish friends in his youth. Also surprising will be the disturbing account of an actress who participated in his alleged sexual perversions, or the romantic adventures he had, from a summer idyll to other more tempestuous loves. And no less surprising will it be to learn that he was a regular user of psychoactive substances, such as cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine, and that he almost died of an overdose. We get close to an unusually close Hitler, with his family traumas, his fears, frustrations and insecurities, and also with his intuition, his sense of humour and his willpower, at the same time as the implacable despot who led the world to war and drove the extermination of millions of people to the surface.
