Juan B. Botero is a cross-cultural communication consultant with media production and business development experience servicing private, government and non-profit interests in Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and the United States. He was born in Washington D.C. and grew up in Bogotá, Colombia. During his military service in the Colombian Army, he was trained in counterintelligence at the Batallón de Infantería Miguel Antonio Caro (MAC). He holds a Bachelor of Science in Broadcasting and Film from Boston University and is a member of the National Press Photographer's Association (NPPA), the Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) and the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA). His consulting services have been retained by major corporations such as General Motors, Allison Transmission, the Hallmark Channel, Starz Encore, The United States Navy, The United States Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Newport News Shipbuilding, Boston Market and TBWA CHIAT/DAY. He served on the Board of Directors of the Colorado I Have a Dream Foundation and The Inner City Health Center, and has worked for Compassion International, Fundación TECHO, Habitat for Humanity, HCJB Global, The Mission Possible Foundation, The United States Naval Sea Cadets Corps (USNSCC) and United Way. He worked in strategic communication for political campaigns in the United States, Mexico, Honduras and Perú and has been interviewed by regional and national affiliates of ABC, CBS, NBC, National Public Radio (NPR) as well as international networks such as the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Radio Cadena Nacional, Radio Caracol, Radio Unica, CNN Español, Telemundo, TV Azteca and UNIVISION. As part of his research on immigration, he has worked as an interpreter at the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) of the Department of Justice (DOJ). As a sworn Officer of the Court, he has witnessed more than 7,000 deportation proceedings in courtrooms and detention facilities in Arizona, California, Florida, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Utah. He is a spokesman for the Deported Veterans Support House, DREAMers Moms USA Tijuana and the families of victims of extrajudicial killings by white supremacist vigilantes on the US-Mexico border. As the proponent of "The Best of Both Worlds, " a Humane Comprehensive Immigration Reform (HCIR) based on Restitution and Earned Legalization, he is a uniquely qualified subject-matter expert on the failures and corruption of US immigration laws and policies.
