Julie Vogt is no one special in terms of what has been accomplished with her life. However, in 1976 the agency for the blind in Minnesota had what they thought were rights to tether blind people's lives. Some employees of agencies for the blind still take this demeanor without success. This is the story of how the author fought the tyrannical possibility of having to work in an agency sheltered shop for 50 cents an hour with no right to pursue half-open doors towards what she wanted to do with her life. The author was cut of Social Security Disability Benefits at the initiative of the agency for the blind in Minnesota to earn a total of $40.00 a month for a year and a half while she battled Social Security to victory in 1980 and was able to record her first record. (Yes, that's what they were called back then.) Today there is much in place under the Rehab Laws which blind people still don't know about, as was the case then. Agencies are quick to write blind people off into their purposes for blind people. In addition to this book's being autobiographical, this is the story of how Julie Vogt, fueled by anger at agency tyranny, fought to maintain her rights as a blind person, which included the right to choose and pursue her own chosen field of work. This is a must-read for blind people who feel they are forced to be agency puppets with no light at the end of the tunnel.
