SILAS BARNUM CHATFIELD, the son of Levi and Sarah Runnels Chatfield, moved with his parents from New Milford, Connecticut to Otselic, Chenango County, New York when he was a young boy. Silas married twice, prospered as a farmer and mill owner, built a large farmhouse, and raised a large family. The farmhouse that Silas Chatfield built in 1879 still stands today, and many of his descendants still live in the area.
