This is an important work for development, as it questions and at the same time addresses issues of women s participation in economic activities; a pertinent gender debate and issue. It gives the different steps made internationally and locally - by the Ugandan government for women economic empowerment and explores the different policies, laws support that have been put in place to enable women participation in economic activities in Uganda. The research explores and discusses the different social, cultural and financial factors that affect the participation of women in economic activities despite the endeavors and support by the government, gender activists and the development organizations. It also unleashes the gaps that need to be filled by the different stakeholders in the efforts of bringing about women economic plight in rural communities, and gives recommendation on the same.
