These, among other constrains, limit the application of antibiotics in food preservation, clinical utilization and other situations. Consequently, there has been a growing interest in developing safe and effective microbial substitutes like bacteriocins. This book, however, provides researchers a typical stepwise approach to isolate soil bacteria (especially, species belonging to Pseudomonas and Bacillus genera) with potentials to produce bacteriocins and bacteriocin-like extracellular metabolites, as well as procedures to characterize such excreted metabolites.
