Sustainable use of riparian lands is a big challenge is face of growing human population and diminishing land size. Farmers and organisations working with them may have limited knowledge of recommended riparian buffers protection practices making application of these by farmers difficult. Sources of knowledge and information of recommendations/best practices and motivation of farmers play a big role in promoting application. Applicability of the recommendations and such other factors as farmer's knowledge of the practices, land ownership, field sizes and irrigation methods used partly determine use of riparian buffer strips protection practices. Increasing knowledge of service providers and farmers and examination of incentives and disincentives created by projects must be done; including a review of the applicability of some of the practices. This book is intended for policymakers, organizations providing agricultural land management services and farmers their trade along river lines in both wetland and uplands.
