Uzi fly, Exorista sorbillans is a serious endo-larval parasitoid of the silkworm, Bombyx mori inflicting 10-15 % damage to the silkworm cocoon crop in the premier silk producing states of Karanataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu. Pre incidents of Uzi fly are high in tropical countries. Main objectives of the investigation are to evolve methodologies to control the incidents of Uzi fly and provide quality/quantity of cocoons to escalate the industry to greater heights. Naturally, silkworms became susceptible to number of diseases, pests and parasites. As the objective of sericulture is to produce good quality cocoons for silk production, it is very essential to evolve preventive measures to control the pests and diseases cause considerable damage to silk industry.

Dr.L.H.Shivashankarappa presently working as Associate Professor in Sericulture, MSCW, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. He obtained M.Sc, M.Phil and awarded Ph.D in Sericulture in 1998 from Bangalore University. He has published many research papers in reputed journals. Recently he has conferred Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam Life time achievement award.
