It is claimed that the early definitions of sustainable tourism explain it as a solution to mass tourism. Many strategies for sustainable tourism have been proposed by various authors in recent decades and the importance of participation or community involvement has also been emphasized. Emerging strategies of sustainable tourism are discussed here, focusing mainly on factors that influence their success or failure as well as community involvement for reaching sustainable tourism.
