Endorsements and Reviews Great book that depicts the technical writings and personal journey of Ron Long. You will learn a lot from his lifetime of research and stewardship as he addressed saline seep and acidic soil on his family farm. Endorsements and Reviews Great book that depicts the technical writings and personal journey of Ron Long. You will learn a lot from his lifetime of research and stewardship as he addressed saline seep and acidic soil on his family farm. His writings are easy to understand and portrayed with a humble and, at times, humorous tone. The book is also rich in photos, artwork and historic material that enhances Ron's research and story. I was also impressed with the Glossary that helped with any terms or descriptions that may need clarification and the Resource Guide to help find assistance if you need further guidance. >This book demonstrates how Montana farmer, Ron Long had a remarkable understanding of soil science, and how he used that knowledge to solve major problems on not just his farm, but on any farm where the owners were willing to listen and learn. From salinity issues in the 1960s to soil acidity problems in 2020, Ron Long's writings are proof that one dedicated, curious person can learn about and share the importance and complexity of soil, and its importance to successful farming. >Ron shows in his writings how, with passion, patience, and persistence one can tackle and solve many issues in farming thought to be unachievable. He was tireless in his pursuit to correct problems while still figuring out a way to be profitable. When issues arose, he would constantly challenge researchers and peers to keep looking for better solutions. One of Ron's greatest qualities was how extremely observant he was about how farming was affecting his soils, plants, and local hydrology. Above all, Ron was never afraid to fail and just kept looking for better ways to improve the resource. Scott Brown, Montana Salinity Control Association
