Neglected injury is a problem almost indigenous to the developing countries. Even after the tremendous advancement made in the field of scientific research in the past few decades, prevalence of neglected injuries in monumental proportions in India reflects that a large population in our country is still denied the fruits of technological strides. Because of well organized health services and general consciousness among the public regarding early treatment of injuries, description of neglected cases is not forthcoming from the western literature. The treating surgeon is confronted with a number of problems requiring accurate evaluation, experienced decision making and a high degree of professional skill. Delineating the treatment strategy requires a consideration of the age, socio-economic status, occupational demands, degree of activity, general health and associated diseases, rehabilitation potential and patient compliance. The need for early physical, occupational, socio-economic and psychological rehabilitation has to be borne foremost in mind.
