Within the sociology of language, academics are practising interdisciplinarity by combining the study of social structure and language use, i.e. they focus on the interplay of language and society. This article tries to deal with the problem of how linguistic features and social arrangements interrelate by using the example of Swahili and its speakers in Bujumbura - the capital of Burundi. Autorenporträt
Lianne Belt has obtained her Research Master degree in African Studies in 2008. Since then she has worked with victims of human trafficking, refugees, undocumented migrants and other people who can use some support. Currently she leads a project with international and migrant churches. She also teaches Swahili and is a board member of an NGO.
