Lillah Schwartz has taken 35 years of yoga practice, yoga teaching, and teacher training experience to print with the publication of Healing Our Backs with Yoga: An Essential Guide to Back Pain Relief. Schwartz, a long time resident of Asheville, North Carolina, operated the first full service yoga studio in Asheville starting in 1981. She was one of the first women business owners in the downtown area and continued to own Lighten Up Yoga Center until a merger with One Center Yoga in 2013. Lillah continues to teach at One Center Yoga as well as running private yoga therapy sessions, yoga teacher trainings and retreats. Known as "the queen of alignment," she has studied with yoga experts such as B.K.S. Iyengar, Aadil Palkhivala, Eric Small, Matthew Sanford, and others. She pioneered the Iyengar method in North Carolina from 1981, led the way to establishing Asheville as a yoga destination, and held an Iyengar Yoga teaching certificate from 1985-2009. An experienced teacher trainer, Lillah's particular strengths are in the areas of applied anatomy, physiology and movement sciences. Lillah is well known for her excellence in the therapeutic applications of yoga based on 35 years of training and experience. Her Healing Our Backs with YogaTM teaching program brings the science and spirit of yoga to hundreds of people each year, who have connected with their healing potential, overcome their pain, and improved their functional ability with her guidance. Her program is a registered yoga therapy course with IAYT. Founded on this program she developed the book of the same name. In 1991, Lillah produce "Yoga: Your Freedom from Back Pain," a 90-minute self-¬help DVD for beginners. This DVD was favorably recommended by Dr Andrew Weil's national self¬-help newsletter and Yoga Journal. It is still in distribution today. Lillah followed this DVD up with "Yoga: Relief for Neck and Shoulder Pain," a 60-minute self¬-help DVD for all levels, in 2000. This DVD was favorably recommended by Prevention Magazine and Yoga Journal and is also still in distribution. "I was drawn to yoga as a way to feel good generally yet after my first three years I found myself with a great deal of hip back and neck pain. I had a horse fall when I was 16 that rearranged my tailbone along with a genetic upper back and neck scoliosis. This began my quest to find the missing elements I needed to move toward structural balance and pain relief. The book I am offering is the culmination of the most reliable and best practices I discovered to maintain my own back health as well as the back health of countless satisfied students and private clients." In 2009, Lillah began developing the outline for what would become Healing Our Backs with Yoga: An Essential Guide to Back Pain Relief. From the outline, she taught two full weekend classes a year for four years to set the yoga poses and education in the book into practice. She then began writing and three years later, Healing Our Backs with Yoga is reaching publication. Over Lillah's years of experience, she has been published multiple times in The New Life Journal of the Carolinas as well as having many professional organization memberships. She continues to teach classes, teacher trainings, workshops and private lessons through her website, http://www.yogawithlillah.com . Her book, Healing Our Backs with Yoga: An Essential Guide to Back Pain Relief, is currently available locally in Asheville, at Lillah's website, and through the outlets of Ingram Distributors.
