Calcium salt deposition normally occurs only in the formation of bone and the teeth. It is considered as a pathological process when it occurs elsewhere, including the secretory and excretory passages and in soft tissue. This soft tissue calcification may develop into a wide variety of unrelated disorders and degenerative processes. A number of soft tissue calcifications occur in the head and neck region, which may be observed close to or superimposed over mandible on panoramic radiographs involving tissues like major and minor salivary glands lymph nodes, blood vessels, muscles and skin. Such as calcifications can also be observed in the jaw and other head and neck region like cave, nose and neck region. In most cases, the soft tissue calcifications are seen as an incidental finding on radiographs, as the patients are asymptomatic. The identification of calcification or ossification in the soft tissue in the head and neck region is important because it can give an appropriate differential diagnosis or may be suggestive of certain fatal disease when combined with other imaging findings. This book gives an outlook regarding the calcification of soft tissues in the head and neck Real
