Shel is currently an Associate Professor of Clinical Exercise Physiology at Eastern Michigan University (EMU) where he has taught courses in ECG, Exercise Testing and Prescription, and Diabetes and Obesity since 1999. In addition, he has been an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Detroit-Mercy since 2006 teaching ECG courses to the Physician Assistant students; and a Clinical Instructor at Oakland University teaching ECG courses since 1997. Prior to joining the faculty at EMU, Shel was a Clinical Exercise Physiologist at Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, MI where he developed exercise programs for patients with clinical concerns (diabetes, COPD, PVD, multiple risk factor reduction, weight loss, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis and cancer recovery), as well as cardiac rehabilitation. Previous to Botsford Hospital, Shel was the Assistant Director of the hospital wellness center at the Medical College of Ohio (now the University of Toledo Medical Center) where he assisted with risk factor reduction programs and cardiac rehabilitation. In service to ACSM, Shel was a member of the Committee on Certification and Registry Board (CCRB) Clinical Exercise Specialist subcommittee for seven years and currently serves on the CCRB International subcommittee.
