Berta spent three decades in a house with her bitter aunt, her books and her sorrows. Her life has little to offer, until the death of her aunt leaves her a promise to fulfill: to take her ashes to the Zone of Silence, a mystical desert between Durango, Chihuahua and Coahuila. She takes her course and destiny finds her far from home, in a passing hotel in Torróen, when she discovers some teenagers who get together to recite poetry in an adjoining vacant lot. Berta spies on them from the privacy of her room and listening to them brings back a furious appetite for her life. From Mexico City to the Coahuila desert and back, Your Tongue in My Mouth is a novel about generations of women who find rebellion in literature to escape violence, uneasiness, and the lack of a future. An ode to adolescence, waking up from a stupor, to seek life.
