The research work was carried out to characterize the pharmacological effects of ayurvedic iron preparation Nabayas Louha on thirteen experimental models by using Swiss albino as animal model. The effects of the drug were compared with the control group and in some experiments with positive control group. Oral administration of Nabayas Louha aqueous solution was found to have positive effect on gastrointestinal (GI) emptying and gastrointestinal motility test. In the GI emptying test, one of the second hour results was found significant (p0.05). In GI motility test one result was noticeable (p0.099) for increasing GI emptying. In the forced swimming test, two results were noticeable (p0.099) and one result was found very significant (p0.01) for depressant effect of Nabayas Louha. After summarizing all the results it can be said that Nabayas Louha may have gastroprokinetic and CNS depressant activities but to prove the hypothesis it demands further studies.
